With a location between the shores of Lake Geneva and the base of the Alps, the small city of Montreux is indeed beautiful. Switzerland has many magnificent towns to explore and the home of the iconic Montreux Jazz Festival is no exception. From alpine recreation and ski resorts, to wonderful restaurants, museums and culture, the Swiss gem has it all.

The Jazz Festival however, put Montreux on the map back in 1967, with such notable performers as Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald in attendance. Though the influential event has always been firmly rooted in jazz, the festival line-up is seldom one-dimensional and in the past, has drawn everyone from Led Zeppelin to the Wu-Tang Clan. Other reasons to visit Montreux include the annual Comedy Festival and brilliant Gourmet Route. The latter combines all the scenic splendor of a 5-km walk in the Swiss countryside with exquisite fare from local chefs and wine producers.
