The "Pink City" on the banks of the River Garonne is home to a metro population of 1.1 million, most of whom must feel fortunate to live in such a genial city. Other superb attractions range from the grand Saint-Sernin Basilica and Toulouse Cathedral, to the beautiful and pedestrian Place du Capitole, home to the city hall, opera company and symphony orchestra of Toulouse. The old heart of the city, the Place dates back to 1190 and contains some of the most brilliant architecture in Toulouse.
