In contrast to a traditional zoo, the attraction in the suburb of Currumbin adheres to more progressive principles on how best to care for and display native fauna. As a result, the Wildlife Sanctuary is a first-rate conservation facility and ecotourism point of interest. Species native to Australia at the Sanctuary include dingoes, saltwater crocodiles and various marsupials. The park is most famous however, as a habitat for enormous flocks of rainbow lorikeets. The Australasian parrot motivated floriculturist and beekeeper Dr. Alexander Morris Griffiths to establish the Wildlife Sanctuary in 1947.
