Antica Casa Carettoni Hotel Venice Guest Reviews
Wasn't sure what to expect since I reserved over the internet. And it was located on the main drag. But was surprisingly quiet. Clean. The woman at the front desk was quite nice and helpful. Would definitily stay here again.

Excellent location, we didn't have to carry our bags very far from the Piazzale Roma. Only took about 15 minutes to walk to Piazza San Marco. The room was large and very comfortable, bathroom was smallish which is typical of Europe but very clean with all amenities. The staff we met where very helpful and spoke great english and made good suggestions of things to do and places to go. I just couldn't be happier and will stay here when I come back to Venice for a longer stay.

hotel is a few hundred feet from the train station, which made getting there easy. nice walk to just about anywhere you'd want to go - venice is small enough that you can walk anywhere and everywhere. staff was nice, multilingual and welcoming. room was tiny, but functional, and most importantly, clean. windows opened out to the main street, which could get a but noisy, but nothing that you can't sleep through.

The pictures of this hotel looked very homely and quaint, so I booked for two nights. I was disappointed from the first few minutes there. I can understand that space is limited in Venice and elevators are a luxury BUT, we were traveling with about 60 - 70 lb. trunks of luggage each and the first thing we see is a flight of stairs. It would have been nice to have a bell hop assist us up those stairs, but there isn't one. There was only one girl at the reception desk. So we had to haul our luggage up not one, but THREE flights of stairs to get to our room, and some people had rooms above us! Oh, and our room! Tiny! We didn't even have room for both of us to open our luggage, we had to take turns. Also, the hotel website says its a short walk to St. Mark's square, but not really. It's a fair walk for a young person, but if you are old, I'd say take the water taxi even though it'll take a while. It was however, very close to the train station as advertised. The biggest kicker though was their breakfast. It's only from 8 to 930, and I got there around 840, and most all the food was gone and there was no attempt to replenish any of it. Empty platters of who knows what was on there were on the bar area. I even had to clear my own table because they were all dirty and no one was cleaning up. Pretty much the only thing left to eat was a couple pastries and corn flakes. Compared to all the other included breakfasts we have had on our trip so far, this was the worst breakfast by far! I didn't even bother to wake up early the next morning for it. The cherry on top was that my husband threw his back out getting the luggage down the stairs and we still had to take trains to our next stop. Wouldn't come back to this hotel if you paid me.

The staff at this hotel was extremely friendly and helpful, breakfast was good, hotel was clean. Room was as advertised. Keep in mind that rooms can be noisy due to central location, also smelled of cigarettes. Can't beat location if you are arriving by train.
